  • Juvenile peregrine falcon just learning to fly still with downy feathers. Yosemite National Park.
  • Juvenile Peregrine Falcon "hunting" a stick in the air. The juveniles often play and hone their valuable hunting skills with inanimate objects such as sticks. This falcon flew up with the stick in its talons, released it and then faced away so it would not see the stick falling. It would then roll over, spot the stick and dive down to catch it as seen here.
  • The same juvenile as the previous image after capturing the stick and then practicing "breaking its neck"
